Rev Run and Mommy Justine Simmons impact
on Dallas
After seeing Rev Run and his lonely wife Justine doing an interview on a local Morning News Show,
I had to change my schedule in hopes of getting an interview from them. I informed my 14 yr old daughter Michelle that the
couple would be at the North Park Barnes and Nobles and without hesitation she shouted we have to get an interview from them.
I honestly think she was more excited than I.
We arrived at the Bookstore, upon arrival I asked for the Store Manager introduced myself as Press
and asked if it was possible that I could get an interview with them before or after the Book Signing. The organizer of the
event was Nikki of Barnes and Nobles, said that she would have to ask the couple once they arrived to see what was best for
them. Well thankfully the wonderful couple agreed to see me before the Book Signing.
I have always been a fan of the group RUN D MC since the beginning of Rap I consider the group
as the pioneers of the Hip Hop Rap era for real. But, I must say that Justine Simmons is a total asset to her husband Rev
Run. I’m not a fan of Reality TV at all, well I might say I wasn’t until I started watching the MTV Show RUN’s
House. At first I was like this is scripted and fake, then I really got off into the Show and realized hey this is real 4
real. I found myself watching the marathons of the Show all day even.
During the interview I asked Rev Run about his ministry, Rev Run stated that MTV is his pulpit
that although he doesn’t have a Church per say he still ministers in each show. I thought how clever and true in each
show there is a lesson taught. Justine added that even with the mishap of the
marijuana usage of their elder son, they didn’t try covering it up they used their family as a example showcasing the
issues that arrive in many families no matter the race rich or poor we all have the same issues to deal with.
The couple went on to say that they wanted to share the experiences of their family the good and
bad to show the urgency of the fact that we all need to “Take Back Our Family”. The comparison of the Simmons
to the fictional Cosby’s is none. The Huxtable’s were scripted the Simmons are real. The only script for the Simmons
is life and the issues of life as a Family. We have second families merged together with love and respect. Rev Run is the man of
the house his wife includes him as the man in the decisions with the children and household. Justine in my eyes is the epitome
of womanhood and motherhood the thing is when you see her in person you feel what you see of her in every episode. As the
wonderful couple were getting ready to go up their Book Signing and the long lines that awaited them. I asked if my daughter
who actually came to see Justine could take a photo with them they agreed my daughter was so emotional she buried her face
in her hands. Justine being her kind self consoled her and we finally got a good one.
