One of the young Kings of Comedy
isn’t only known for the tears he makes us shed with his jokes, but his humanitarian efforts. Rickey Smiley is a Champion
for any human rights issue. Being from Alabama where the Civil Rights movement was so formidable Rickey Smiley is an Activist
by birth. When Rickey just arrived in Dallas, Texas a Young woman 36 years old by the name of Shulandria Jackson was picking
up a family friend when her car was blocked into a parking space, where she was shot and killed. Although she wasn’t
the intended target her passenger was, but she was killed nevertheless. Upon hearing that news Rickey and learning that she
left behind children, he appealed to the listeners to assist the girl, and they did. On another more recent occasion, the
prank phone called turned real serious when a caller phoned the Radio Station that Rickey host. The caller informed Rickey
about a 15 year old black female by the name of Shaquanda Cotton had been sent to prison for simply shoving a hall monitor.
The black youth was sentenced to 7 years in prison. In the same area a 14 year old white female was sentenced to probation
after she was convicted of burning down her family’s house. To say that was a miscarriage of Justice is understatement.
Rickey formed a protest in front of the Courthouse in Paris Texas the next day. Within a 24 hour period Rickey had a crowd
of Protestors in route to Paris Texas 105 miles seeking Justice for young 15 year old girl. The girl was released from jail
after the Protest. Rickey vowed to continue the Protest by going to Austin seeking Justice for the child in a Higher Court.
The actions of this young brother
runs deep and wide, he not only has jokes but compassion and humility for his fellow man. Rickey Smiley’s talent to
make folks laugh and his big heart of Gold has made his Show the number 1 Urban Radio Station in Dallas. Rickey Smiley and
those Nutts as his co-stars are called have injected some life into everybody’s morning….
