Giving back is a must to Spud Webb and Ken Ivy
Spud Webb and Ken Ivy went to the
aid of Mayor Walter C. Porter and the Town of Epes Alabama. After hearing the sincere cry for help by Mayor Porters with his
fundraising efforts to build a new and much needed Community Technical Center. The new structure will be located in Epes Alabama,
but its services will be extended to the entire Sumter County and any and all that needs it. Mayor Porter says he’ll
have an open door policy to all that in need of the Centers Services. Mayor Porter was introduced to Spud Webb and Ken Ivy
by the Founder/Owner of Act One Management Group LLC, Valerie Larche. After Mayor Porter shared his vision for the Center
with Ms. Larche, she decided to bring a couple of her Celebrity Clients on broad to assist with the Fundraising events that
she organized for the Town of Epes at no-charge. Neither of the Celebrities that agreed to help was paid for their time. Both
said it was an honor to help with the Project free of charge.
Spud Webb stated to the Media WTOK-ABC
that it’s a blessing to be able to give back in anyway possible. Spud Webb arrived at the airport in Birmingham Alabama
on Saturday July 21, 2007 at 10:20 am. Spud was returning home from an engagement in Orlando Florida and had been traveling
for two weeks. He had a scheduled paying engagement that he canceled one day of, to attend the Mayor of Epes 1st
Annual Spud Webb Celebrity Basketball Camp. Spud Webb changed into his basketball shorts and T-shirt in the small public restroom
of the Livingston High School. Spud Webb is Partnering with The Mayor of Epes with this Project; he states that he is determined
to see the new Center built. He went on to say that every child and adult needs to have a chance to experience a facility
that will provide the service that the Town of Epes Community and Technical Center. He interacted with the Youth attending
the Camp telling them the importance of a good sportsmanship attitude and being a good person period. After spending about
3 hours with the Campers he was off and running back to the Airport to return home in Dallas. The adults seem to enjoy his
presence as much as the children. Mr. Webb offered a plea to all to take a look at the Project and contribute to this must
needed cause. He is doing his part by donating 1000 training tapes and displays, in addition to the tapes Mr. Webb is giving
his name and likeness to the Mayor with his Annual Spud Webb Celebrity Basketball Camp. Mr. Webb will appear each year for
this fundraising event and bring a couple of his NBA colleagues with him.
Spud left the Livingston High School
Campus in walked the Simon and Shuster Author Ken Ivy. Ken Ivy came into the Gym and addressed the children. Ken was a familiar
face since most of the children are into BET and MTV. Ken Ivy told the children of his colorful past, he told them that the
choices he made were poor ones, but the beautiful thing about America it’s a Country of Opportunities and in most cases
a second chance. Ken Ivy told the children that education was their key to success, and to avoid making poor choices for fast
money. He said that he enjoyed and was deeply honored that he had the opportunity to speak with the children and to be apart
of the Epes Celebrity Weekend to benefit the Town and the Community Center. Mayor Porter presented The Town of Epes Humanitarian
Award to both men and the key to the Town for their unselfish acts of kindness. If Greatness is judged by a random act of
kindness then Ken Ivy and Spud Webb magnify the word.
