You are the wind beneath my wings
You
were born two months early. You were born to an unwed mother. It was said that you wouldn’t live past the age of two.
It was said that you and your brothers would end up in prison. It was asked how your mother could have a child as good as
you(since she listens to Rap Music). Against all so-called odds you and your brothers made it out. You graduated from
high school third in your class. You received a 5 year NCAA Division 1 scholarship playing football; you gave that up because
you wanted to concentrate on your academics more. You graduated from Sam Houston State University.
You
went without food in college and didn’t want to tell your mother because you knew if she had it, you would never have
to ask, plus that it would worry her. It was hard being you because you’ve always been the one that others looked up
to, your family, your classmates and even your teachers. They looked up to you because you are a Leader. You practice
doing the right thing and always have. Your peers looked up to you at times when they were unaware that you were carrying
a heavy load yourself, but being you and the man that God has made you to be. You
Stood and found the strength and words to help them. You were given something that you didn’t ask for, but always remember
Favor isn’t fair.
I just
want to say thank you son. Thank you for being you. Thank you for telling me that it’s nothing I could ever do to make
you ashamed of me. Coming from you that statement means something. Thank you for not giving up and most of all thank you for
being the best of me. You are my Hero; you are what I wished to be. When I feel that I can’t go on I see your face and
character and it gives me the wind I need. I thank God most of all to allow me to give birth to a man that one day is going
to make a major mark on the world. When he does, he will be a voice to others that come from hardships (such as evictions,
homelessness, not enough food, no lights, and the list go on). You will be the voices to the youth that you are so concerned
about, because you have a story to tell.
The
story is that you understand, but they too can do what you did. My final thanks to you is… thank you for making me look
so good. Because you are a product of me and regardless to what others think; we know the truth… I love you so much
my precious baby boy, for you are the wind beneath my wings: Congratulations and God bless you…
