Barack Obama took Birmingham Alabama by storm
The anticipation of his arrival was overwhelming after his blowout in South Carolina. Upon arriving at UAB a
local radio personality asked me the question what was the most important reason to vote. I replied that the power to vote
is a equalizer, I went on to say that the rich man has lots of money but only one vote, the poor man has little or no money
but he has one vote. I concluded the brief interview with the fact that our power to vote is one of our most valuable assets
in that if we use it, we are able to make changes in our lives and the world.
The performance by New Hope Baptist Choir directed by Minister of Music Prince Yelder was excellent. The crowd
of 11,000 plus was joyous to see, it was truly a dream come true to see the masses
of all races together and enjoying being Americans. Excitement was in the air and people were as one. People came from as
far as Texas, South Carolina, and Florida, to hear this powerful man speak.
Then came the moment of truth, the lights were dimmed, the crowd went wild. 7th District Congressman Artur Davis
came out and made a powerful speech; afterward the man of the hour came onto the stage and was received by the crowd with
cheers. Before going into his speech he acknowledged several people. At one point during the acknowledgements he said there
is a woman, the voice of a young female from the balcony interrupted him by shouting out “here I am”. Everybody
busted out in laughter even Senator Obama. After the crowd calmed down he went on to acknowledge the 96 year old female civil
rights activists and replied to the female voice in the call and that’s not you. The crowd laughed again. The fact that
Senator Obama has a sense of humor was nice to know. The Senator’s message of Unity ranged loud and clear. Sen. Obama
was forceful in his message of dispelling the notion that “Blacks can’t get Whites votes, and that people aren’t
locked in the past”. The crowd represented people from all walks life. They all came and said yes we can and are writing
a new chapter in history.
Sen. Obama was adamant about good schools for all children, and that was what America is about the spirit of
unity. He said to those that ask why are you doing this now his reply is it’s my turn… He said he has an urgency
of now.
The man’s message for Hope and Change was plain as day, and the world hears him. I was honored and felt
privileged to experience his speech. I will never forget the day I was in the company of Mr. Barack Obama a man of greatness.
This man has come to serve his country. I truly felt his sincerity and love for his country and its citizens all of its citizens.
I feel that Mr. Obama is the answer to our serious issues that America is facing. I feel that he’s not
bringing old luggage but new ideas, allowing the World to see America as the Country that its principals are built and stand
for. He has the character and humility to help heal a lot of open sores or battle scares that America wears.
We have a chance to vote and make a change for the better. For the sake of our future let’s try something
new. New not meaning a man of color, new meaning another man of Character and sustains. Let’s make this an America that
everybody once thought of as the land the free and home of the brave. Please people use you right to vote by voting for Mr.
Barack Obama. Rap Soul Urban Magazine is on record as endorsing Mr. Barack Obama for The President of the United States of
America.
