Congressman Artur Davis (D) AL a tested Leader headed for Governor of his great State
Artur Davis is one of Alabama's naive Sons
Artur Davis didn’t allow statistics of being a product of a single mother due to
the unfortunate event of the divorce of his parents at an early age, dictate his destiny. Artur Davis had a strong mother
and grandmother that instilled the most essential values that any parent can give a child the importance of Character. Artur
Davis represents his home State with the pride and professionalism that would make the citizens of Alabama more than proud.
Artur Davis is a positive man that feels that the most important resource is the children
of Alabama being able to get the best education there is in order to compete with others nationally and globally. Artur Davis
has stressed the importance of Human Infrastructure in every meeting I’ve been present. That fact echoes louder than
any other issues that he mentions which show his sincere compassion for the brightest future for Alabama.
Artur Davis, a native son of Montgomery, Ala., left the state to earn his bachelor's degree
at Boston University and law degree at Harvard. During college, he interned for the late Alabama Sen. Howell Heflin.
U.S. Representative Artur Davis was reelected in 2008 to serve his fourth term in the U.S. House
of Representatives. He represents Alabama’s Seventh Congressional District, a twelve county area that spans from Birmingham
and Tuscaloosa to the Black Belt.
In a relatively short period
of time, Davis has made his mark as an effective legislator who was won national attention for his leadership on a range of
issues. He serves as a member of the prestigious Ways and Means Committee, which oversees economic policy. Davis is only the
tenth Alabamian in 190 years to serve on this committee, which is the only congressional committee actually described in the
Constitution.
Davis has already won several
notable legislative victories that have benefitted both the urban and rural portions of his congressional district. When Republicans
controlled Congress, his skill at forging bipartisan coalitions helped him pass legislation to save the HOPE VI program for
revitalizing public housing communities. During the Democratic majority, Davis was the leading force behind reopening the
Pigford black farmers lawsuit. He has also been a persuasive voice for creative ideas that would expand health care and improve
educational performance.
Congressman Davis, a Montgomery
native, graduated with honors from both Harvard University and Harvard Law School and has had a nearly 15 year career in public
service. As a law student, he worked for the Southern Poverty Law Center and U.S. Senator Howell Heflin. From 1994 –
1998, he compiled a near 100% trial conviction record as a federal prosecutor in Montgomery. From 1998-2002, Congressman Davis
worked as a litigator in private practice.
Davis has won a variety of honors, including
being selected by Esquire Magazine as one of the 10 best Congressmen in America. He was unopposed in 2008 and in 2006, Congressman
Davis received the largest total popular vote cast in any Congressional primary in the country. Davis’ new, pragmatic
style of politics has made him one of the most popular political figures in Alabama.

at Montgomery. Tara moved to Montgomery in 1993 where she serves on the board of Montgomery AIDS Outreach and is a member
at St. Johns AME Church

Artur Davis in my book is a man of substance, the type of substance that’s needed nowadays. With the lack of
positive male role models it’s an honor to acknowledge a man of the caliber as Congressman Artur Davis as one of
Alabama Finest Naïve Sons who would make an excellent Governor of the great State of Alabama. Congressman Davis is running
on solid issues such as:
Creating Jobs & Transforming our Economy
With unemployment in double digits in half our counties, Artur Davis knows we
must do something different when it comes to economic development. That’s why he supports establishing a new cabinet
level office to recruit industry to distressed rural counties. Davis will also focus on drawing new job sources to our state,
in industries like alternative energy production, information technology and bio-medicine. He will draw on national expertise
to foster broadband deployment in rural communities. By preparing for the future, Alabama can become a beacon for growing
new industries that will sustain economic growth for a generation.
Davis recognizes that while we must recruit new industries, sustaining existing
businesses is also essential. He will expand the mission of the Alabama Development Office to develop strategies for
retaining existing industries and trouble-shooting companies that may be on the verge of closing their Alabama operations.
Reforming Public Schools & Protecting
the PACT Program
Alabama’s drop-out rate has consistently
been among the worst in America. Davis knows the status quo is not a viable solution to improve public schools in Alabama.
He understands that well before high school, too many kids begin to lag behind their peers in their basic cognitive abilities.
That’s why he will expand an array of programs that strengthen early childhood development. Davis believes
pre-Kindergarten, afterschool programs and character education are critical to providing students with the support they need
to succeed at an early age.
Because our children are just as likely
to be competing for a job with a child from Taiwan as they are a child from Tennessee, Davis will renew Alabama’s commitment
to science and math education to better prepare our children for the jobs of the 21st Century. Davis does not fear
reform and will join President Obama in supporting charter schools that can introduce innovation to education in communities
around our state.
And Davis believes that money should never
be a reason to keep young people out of college. That’s why he’ll fulfill the moral commitment to families
and individuals who invested in Alabama’s PACT program and ensure that every dollar invested is protected. He will also
end the days of Alabama ranking at the bottom when it comes to the amount of state assistance to moderate and low income college
students. Click here to watch a video of Artur Davis discussing Alabama’s
moral obligation to PACT families.
Ethics Reform & Restoring Confidence in Government
It’s
been a generation since Alabama reformed our ethics laws for elected officials. The recent outbreak of indictments and
convictions of public officials has brought into clear view the need for real reform. That’s why Davis supports
a special session of the Legislature to pass new laws that would impose a total gift ban on lobbyists; enact conflict of interest
rules that would stop lawmakers from using their influence to benefit their employers; ban PAC to PAC transfers; cap contributions
to campaigns; and require public officials indicted for misusing their office to step aside until they can clear their name.

public trust in government.
Davis
knows that in order to truly reform state government, Alabama needs a new state constitution. But Davis believes the voters
of Alabama should have the opportunity to weigh in on this issue. Ultimately, Davis supports a referendum
calling for a statewide constitutional convention, and believes Alabama needs to adopt a document that suits our needs in
a new century. Click here to learn more about Rep. Davis' plan to reform Alabama's 1901 Constitution.
